Welcome To The Wonderful World of Valerie-Jean Hume...!

This is Valerie-Jean Hume...They call her "VJ". Come visit these pages about her career as a singer, musician, writer, model, actress, voice-over talent, and interview radio show hostess...

After graduating from the University of Saskatchewan with a B.A. in Fine Arts, VJ headed to Toronto, Canada. There, she acted in musical comedy revues, movies, national radio theatre, and a worldwide TV serial, "Paul Bernard, Psychiatrist". She recorded audio books, acted in children's theatre, and became a puppeteer. Her interests expanded to modelling and journalism in radio and newspapers.

VJ then combined all her experience by creating the first Professional Modelling course at any community college. Founded at Canada's Sheridan College, it produced "Miss Canada" finalists every year....

However, VJ left this life to follow her dream of a career in music. She mastered a rare and beautiful instrument, the Autoharp, and sings in ten languages. She travelled the world and worked on nine Cruise ships, becoming the first female ever to earn a Panamanian Lifeboat Commander Certificate.
She worked as entertainer, hostess, and Stargazing lecturer. While at sea, she recorded two albums; in Palm Springs she made three more, including a "big band" CD, "Valerie-Jean Salutes the Singers of the Second Millennium".

When she produced an instructional video teaching her secrets of playing the autoharp, the manufacturer named a line of autoharp after her: 'THE HUME HARP'! The Autoharp is a mellow, rich-sounding 36-string instrument, and in her video VJ teaches you to play it even if you have no musical training! Her CD with it is "The Hume Harp".

VJ continues to perform, and in the following pages you'll see photos and read about her appearances--including Las Vegas!  Also, you'll meet the beautiful "big" harps named Guinevere and Priscilla, the Celtic harps she has played since the beginning of this Millennium.

Since 1987 she has resided in Palm Springs, California !

If you select from the menu on the Left of this page, you can find out about VJ's multifaceted life, with simultaneous careers in various fields!

THERE'S MORE! Teaching, Acting, Modeling...and Ted.

Read all about it on their website...

Ted and VJ have been married 8 years!  They combine their lives and their music, as Ted plays clarinet, flute, sax, harmonica, and other wind instruments.  They are specializing in a combination of classical, folk, pop, and jazz music.  Visit their website to read all about them....and also visit "VJ and The Initials" to find out about her jazz/Latin/dance music as a trio, quartet, or quintet at http://www.initials.s5.com

VJ's has written a new play, "LUSH!" about the life of Marty Mann, the first-ever woman to join AA!

"LUSH!" won multiple awards from the Desert Theatre League's "DESERT STARS" awards, including the coveted "Bill Groves Award" for Best Original Writing, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actress, and Best Overall Production of a Staged Reading.  It can be performed with a cast of nine, or a cast of five, which includes live music from a clarinetist (Ted, of course).  This powerful dramedy in two acts is not just educational (almost every family tree contains some alcoholics) but fascinating and fun.  Contact VJ at (760) 775-6212 for production information.
